Manifestation in Memoriam of Timur Kacharava in St. Petersburg

On November 13, 2007 in St. Petersburg, a memorial was held at the place on the same date two years before, Timur Kacharava, an anti-fascist activist and musician, was stabbed to death by a group of Neo-nazis.

The participants held candles and pictures of Timur. According to the information from the organizers, the St. Petersburg MEMORIAL, the overall estimated number of those who attended was about 200 people.

The organizers of the picket distributed a leaflet, the main idea of which was that the murder of Kacharava has become a first in the series of murders of "Antifa' activists committed by groups of Neo-nazis. The attackers behind the assaults on Timur, Alexander Ryukhin, Stanislav Korepanov and Ilya Borodaenko were arrested, and trials were held in each of the cases (except for the attack on Borodaenko). However, in the majority of cases, prosecutors charged only one person with murder, while the other perpetrators were charged only with hooliganism. In the case of Stanislav Korepanov, there were only two people on trial, both accused of premeditated murder without any hate motive, but it is known, that the crime was committed by a much larger group.

To directly quote the leaflet, "In not a single incident was the crime qualified as a premeditated murder committed by a group of attackers and with a hate motive, but it is the presence of premeditation itself which makes the attacks on antifascists so similar to one other and so different from other crimes, such as hooliganism, unplanned fights, or murders committed by an individual."
