The Public Chamber adopted a compromise resolution on the issue of teaching religion at school
A long-standing conflict around Basic Orthodox Culture (BOC) courses in secondary schools is a focal issue in relationships between the Russian Orthodox Church and the government.
On 27 November, 2006 a joint meeting of three Public Chamber commissions was held in Moscow.
The meeting adopted a resolution on the issue, later changed by the Board of the Chamber.

A. Verkhovsky. The Ministry of Justice has proposed restricting missionary outreach
According to the Slavic Legal Center, the Russian Ministry of Justice has mailed out a draft legal text to religious associations to consult about the Ministry's initiative to amend certain federal legislation "to counteract illegal missionary outreach." The Slavic Legal Center is very critical of the proposed law.
